About Kristen

about-kristen-henry-king A native of New Orleans, LA and born of Jamaican/Cuban and Guyanese/Portuguese lineage, Kristen Henry King began her love affair with music at the age of seven when she began learning the piano. At ten, she began voice lessons and by fifteen was traveling the world as a member of the elite vocalist group The Triple Trio.

King began to garner recognition as a lead vocalist in her hometown shortly thereafter, winning the Houston Young Artists’ Program and receiving a grant from the Houston Grand Opera for voice. She eventually received a Music Talent Scholarship from the prestigious New York University, where she earned a B.A. in Classical Vocal Performance.

King’s multi-dimensional passion for her craft ripened while attending college, where she not only taught herself guitar, but was also featured in several magazines, commercials and music videos. She also performed in multiple musical theater tours, and became an Apollo Legend.

King’s performances have garnered crowds in venues such as NYC’s Asylum, Pianos, 6s & 8s, and Teabag. She also has performed a private, acappella performance for Stephen Marley – at his request and to great response. She also had the honor of sharing the stage at the famed Dresden Room of Los Angeles with legends Marty and Elaine.

Most recently, King has toured with Chinese pop sensation Jane Zhang in Beijing and Chengdu, appeared on multiple television shows including How I Met Your Mother, Work It, Love that Girl, Dark Blue, and the The Bold and the Beautiful, to name a few. She is currently in the process of recording her debut album featuring rock legend, Gary Levin, in which she blends her classical opera roots with harder rock elements creating a new genre of music.

King’s refreshing and sultry sound serves as a resurrection of a genre nearly forgotten by the majority of today’s generation. She is most inspired by the greats… Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Etta James, Minnie Ripperton, Jimi Hendrix, Kathelen Battle, and Deynce Graves, and is motivated by her love for and extensive training in Opera, Jazz infused Classical, and Soul.

As both an artist and a creative force, Kristen Henry King has only begun to scratch the surface of her potential and will prove to be legendary force in her own right.
