KRISTEN HENRY KING
Hi, I’m Kristen Henry King and I am an actress based out of LA, and founder of the Cure in Music, an organization that raises awareness about Multiple Sclerosis.
I am proud to say that I am a first generation American, as my parents are both from 3rd world countries that came to America for a better life. And as much as they would have loved for me to be a Doctor or a Lawyer, it was because of them, I was able to start my love affair with music at the age of 7.
I was obsessed with the show Star Search and begged my parents to be on the show. So after years of waiting and begging at 12 years old, my mom finally gave in. She submitted me and I got accepted. A week before I was to go on, the show got cancelled indefinitely.
I was Devastated.
By 15, I was traveling the world as a member of an elite nine person madrigal choir. I was recognized as a lead vocalist in my hometown winning the Houston Young Artists’ Program, and received a grant from the Houston Grand Opera for voice. I ended up getting a Music Talent Scholarship from NYU, where I earned a B.A. in Classical Vocal Performance. While in college I taught myself guitar, and worked New York City to death doing print, commercials, musical theater, AND becoming an Apollo legend! I toured as a backup singer to Chinese pop sensation Jane Zhang and since moving to LA I proceeded to book more commercials, print and multiple television spots.
My journey has been long and sometimes rough, with many bumps and road blocks, but my passion and determination always trumped any obstacle that got in my way, especially with having the ultimate lifeline—my family, for without them this road would be much harder to bear.
Having grown up listening to oldies, I am most inspired by Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, and the Stylistics as well as elements of classical music. But I’m also influenced by artists that can take classic music and add a new and refreshing sound like, Adele, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith and of course, Michael Jackson.
In addition to being an actress and a musician, I’ve always had a very strong urge in helping people. With being a new mom to two beautiful daughters, and overcoming my own uphill battle with Multiple Sclerosis, I consider it my duty to be an inspiration and voice for others who may not have a voice, and offer my services to those who need it the most.
Please do check out the rest of my site and get in touch if you would like to work with me.
I can’t tell you how many times that I have started a Blog, and never finished it. I once started a blog, Decode Hollywood, when I first moved to LA in 2007 after pursuing a career as a Broadway Star in NYC. I thought to myself, surely I would be able to...
